AI-Native Companies in Berlin: The Landscape in October 2026

AI-Native Companies in Berlin: The Landscape in October 2026

As of October 31, 2026. All figures have been checked against primary sources; company-reported figures and third-party estimates are labelled as such.

Berlin is Germany's densest AI location. The appliedAI "German AI Startup Landscape 2025" counts 283 of the country's 935 AI startups in the capital – roughly 30%. On capital, the picture is more nuanced than it is often told:

  • In 2025, Berlin startups raised around €2.7 billion according to the EY Startup Barometer (+23%). By volume, however, Berlin ranked second, behind Bavaria (€3.3 billion) – it led only on deal count.
  • In the first half of 2026, Berlin regained first place with almost €1.7 billion. But 58% of that came from just four rounds (STARK, Parloa, Taktile, Flink), and the number of deals fell by around 30%. Because Munich mega-rounds dominated the third quarter, it is open whether Berlin will lead the full year.

In the LinkedIn Top Startups 2026 ranking (published in mid-October), Berlin AI company Langdock takes first place. Ten of the 20 companies are based in Berlin, twelve if Potsdam and Hennigsdorf are included. And according to the German Startup Monitor 2026, 53% of German startups now have AI at the core of their product (2024: 39%).

Those numbers say little, though, about which companies actually carry Berlin as an AI location. That is what this piece is about.

Selection criteria: what "AI-native" means here

We only include a company if all three conditions are met:

  1. The core product would not exist without machine learning or language models. AI as an add-on feature is not enough.
  2. Berlin is the operational headquarters according to a primary source. Dual headquarters (e.g. Berlin/New York) are marked.
  3. Documented momentum between January 2025 and October 2026: a funding round, a revenue milestone or a ranking placement.

Companies that were acquired or are majority-owned by a corporate are shown separately.

Deliberately not on the list: Helsing (Munich – often attributed to Berlin, but not based there), Black Forest Labs (Freiburg), DeepL (Cologne), Interloom (Munich). deepset (Haystack) is well known but has not reported a round since 2023. We checked and removed Passionfroot: it is a B2B creator marketplace with AI features, not an AI-native product.

Layer 1: Agent and enterprise AI platforms

The horizontal platform layer is Berlin's most valuable segment.

Langdock – Central AI platform for companies: model-agnostic access to language models, assistants, agents and workflows. The curve is steep: in early 2026 ARR stood at just over $20 million, in June at around $40 million, and in September, according to the company, at more than €50 million – with over 13,000 customers and only 65 employees. In September the new Langdock Holding SE replaced the previous Delaware parent – the reverse of the path many European startups take. Since September, former Visionaries Club partner Judith Dada has co-led the company as co-CEO. First place in the LinkedIn ranking 2026.

n8n – Workflow automation and agent orchestration. Strictly speaking, n8n meets our first criterion only in a broad reading, since the platform started as an automation tool. AI agents, however, are now clearly the growth driver. After the $180 million Series C at $2.5 billion (October 2025), SAP made a strategic investment in May 2026 at a valuation of $5.2 billion; amount and stake were not disclosed. n8n reports 1.7 million monthly active builders.

Parloa (Berlin/New York) – AI agents for enterprise customer service. In January 2026, a $350 million Series D led by General Catalyst at a $3 billion valuation – tripling in eight months. Parloa itself calls New York its US headquarters and expanded its office there in June.

telli – The challenger in the same field: AI agents that automate customer-facing processes such as telephony. Founded in 2024, $15 million seed round in July 2026 (lead: redalpine), more than $18.5 million in total.

Layer 2: AI infrastructure

Qdrant – Open-source vector database written in Rust, the foundation of many RAG and agent systems. $50 million Series B in March 2026 (lead: AVP, with Bosch Ventures among others). According to the company, more than 250 million downloads; customers include HubSpot, Bosch, Tripadvisor and Deutsche Telekom.

Restate – Durable execution: infrastructure that carries backends and AI agents through crashes and outages without losing state. Three of the four founders built Apache Flink. On September 30, 2026, a $20 million Series A (lead: Singular, with Redpoint and Capital One Ventures), $27 million in total. The new San Francisco location is a commercial hub; headquarters remain in Berlin.

Cognee – Memory layer for AI agents that makes knowledge persistently available in structured form. $7.5 million seed round in February 2026 (lead: Pebblebed).

Layer 3: Own models

This layer is thin – but it exists.

Mirelo – trains its own generative audio models that create matching sound effects for videos. In December 2025 Mirelo raised a $41 million seed round, co-led by Index Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz. At the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin on October 19–20, 2026, Nvidia announced planned investments in four German startups – Mirelo is the only one from Berlin. No amounts were disclosed.

Cohere × Aleph Alpha (planned: Berlin/Toronto) – Precision matters here. Aleph Alpha is based in Heidelberg. A binding agreement to combine with Canada's Cohere was signed on September 16, 2026; the combined company is to operate as Cohere, with a planned dual headquarters in Toronto and Berlin, while Heidelberg remains a research centre. According to Dealroom, Cohere shareholders will hold around 90% afterwards. Schwarz Group has committed €500 million to lead Cohere's next funding round. As of the end of October, closing was still pending; the transaction requires regulatory approval. The frequently quoted valuation of around $20 billion rests on anonymous sources. Separately, Aleph Alpha released Kolibri, an open language model under the Apache 2.0 licence, in early October.

This is not (yet) a Berlin foundation-model champion – but a significant gain for the city once the deal closes.

Layer 4: Vertical AI – Berlin's real strength

This is where the breadth lies, and where the pattern of the 2026 cohort becomes visible: vertical agents for back-office work in regulated or paper-heavy industries.

Peec AI deserves a highlight: founded in 2025, ARR grew from around $10 million to $15 million in three months (company figure). Reports of a new round at around a $200 million pre-money valuation have not been officially confirmed. Peec stands for a category that did not exist three years ago.

Exits 2026: Langfuse joins ClickHouse

In January 2026, US database company ClickHouse acquired Berlin's open-source LLM observability tool Langfuse – alongside its own $400 million Series D. The price was not disclosed; the product remains open source. That makes Langfuse the most visible Berlin AI exit of the year – and a sign of how sought-after the infrastructure layer is among US platforms.

Context: AI-enabled defence tech

STARK is Berlin's biggest funding story of the year, but not an AI-native company by our criteria: STARK builds loitering munitions – hardware – with AI for navigation and target recognition. In June 2026 the company, founded in 2024, raised €500 million in a round led by Sequoia and Founders Fund; the valuation is given as €3.2 billion to more than €3.5 billion depending on the source. The basis is a framework contract with the Bundeswehr, whose cap the Bundestag budget committee cut from €4.3 billion to €2 billion in February 2026. Performance remains disputed: in October 2025 the Financial Times reported missed targets in trials. #3 in the LinkedIn ranking 2026.

Borderline cases

Not on the main list, but worth mentioning:

  • Dash0 (Berlin/New York) – Observability platform, unicorn since March 2026 ($110M Series B, Balderton). AI is an agent layer on top of the core product.
  • ARC Intelligence – AI layer and data model on top of existing ERP systems; €4M seed in July 2026.
  • Choco – Ordering platform for food wholesale, unicorn since 2022, repositioned around AI agents in 2025. A pivot, not an AI-native company.
  • Knowunity (AI tutor, €27M Series B in 2025), Mercanis (AI procurement), MOTOR Ai (autonomous driving) – each with rounds in 2025, but without documented momentum in 2026.

Five patterns shaping the landscape

1. The breadth is in vertical agents. The 2026 cohort consists mostly of seed and Series A rounds of €4–18 million for agents in accounting, auditing, law, wholesale, supply chain and travel. Berlin is digitising exactly the back-office work that costs German SMEs the most time.

2. Capital is highly concentrated. A few large rounds – n8n, Parloa, Taktile, STARK – dominate the totals. In the first half of 2026, the number of Berlin deals fell by around 30% while volume rose. For founders, that means: if you are not clearly ahead, follow-on funding is harder to find.

3. Independence is becoming scarce. SAP at n8n, Nvidia at Mirelo, Lockheed Martin at SPREAD AI, C.H.BECK at Noxtua, ClickHouse at Langfuse, Cohere at Aleph Alpha: strategic investors and acquirers now sit on many Berlin cap tables. That brings distribution and capital – and shifts control.

4. Sovereignty has become a business model. Langdock's move from Delaware into a European SE, Noxtua's positioning as sovereign legal AI and the planned Berlin headquarters of Cohere all show it: European data sovereignty is a selling point, not a compliance footnote.

5. The path leads to New York early. Parloa, Taktile and Dash0 effectively run dual headquarters, and Restate is building a hub in San Francisco. Berlin remains the product and engineering base; revenue increasingly grows in the US.

What this means for companies

  • Re-evaluate build vs. buy. For many standard cases – customer service, accounting, compliance mapping, nursing documentation – specialised Berlin vendors with European data residency now exist. Building in-house pays off where proprietary processes and data make the difference.
  • Plan infrastructure from day one. Anyone building their own agents needs retrieval, orchestration, memory and fault tolerance. Qdrant, n8n, Cognee and Restate are established building blocks here.
  • Check ownership structures. The startup you choose today may be part of a corporate tomorrow. Contracts should secure data portability and the ability to switch models.
